When teaching mathematics at Franche, we intend to provide a curriculum which caters for the needs of all individuals and is well-embedded into all of our cross-curricular topics to give a purposeful context for learning. We incorporate chilli challenges, which are varied and high-quality activities with a focus on fluency, reasoning and problem solving. Pupils are required to explore maths in depth, using mathematical vocabulary to reason and explain their workings. A wide range of mathematical resources are used and pupils are taught to show their workings in a concrete way, before establishing ways of pictorially and formally representing their understanding. They are taught to explain their choice of methods and develop their mathematical reasoning skills. By following our Growth Mindset policy, we encourage resilience and acceptance that struggle is often a necessary step in learning.

At Franche Primary we subscribe to a number of educational and fun websites to support your child in developing their key maths skills. Maths shed is available for children from Reception to Year 6, TT Rockstars from Years 2 to 6 and My Maths in Years 5 and 6.
Your child should already have a log in for these websites: please ask their class teacher if you are unsure of it.

Our Maths team have created a guide to each of the four main mathematical functions as well as a guide to help you with the vocabulary we use at Franche, to help you support your children at home:
The team have also made useful step-by-step video guides to show exactly how each method is being taught in school. These are all available on our YouTube channel or by clicking on the link below :
