PE and Sport

At Franche, we encourage pupils to enjoy all aspects of PE and sport, whether it is competitive or creative, individual or team-based.  As outlined in the National Curriculum, PE at Franche inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities.  We aspire for all pupils to play or participate in sports and remain active throughout their lives to support their health and wellbeing. We promote the development of moral understanding and social skills with regular opportunities to discuss rules, resolve disagreements and collaborate with others and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

The curriculum provides pupils with the opportunity to experience a broad range of sports and apply their skills in a variety of contexts, including varying levels of competition. During PE lessons, pupils are given the chance to improve their confidence, health and fitness. There are also opportunities outside of lessons for pupils to partake in competitive and non-competitive sporting activities which help develop their character and embed values such as fairness and respect. Opportunities to develop speaking and listening, leadership qualities, teamwork, officiating, feedback and peer and/or self-assessment run throughout the curriculum in all age groups.

Pupils at Franche, from Reception to Year Six, have the fantastic opportunity to access our on-site swimming pool. These lessons are taught by a fully qualified STA swimming instructor ensuring the children are provided with the necessary skills in becoming competent and confident swimmers.

The School Games Mark is a government-led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.

This is no mean feat, as a Platinum Mark is only awarded to a handful of schools nationwide, who have consistently achieved a Gold Mark in previous years and have shown consistent dedication to sport and activity in their region.

We are immensely proud of all our pupils and staff for their continued dedication to all aspects of school sport and exercise.

Whilst we love to celebrate the competitive success of our teams and individual competitors, its important to also recognise our whole-school approach, 'Exercise for Everyone'.

Get Set 4 PE

We follow the Get Set 4 PE curriculum, to ensure lessons are effectively sequenced to support and ensure progress for children’s knowledge and skills in way that builds confidence and physical proficiency. In lessons, objectives support social and emotional development and help to build children’s resilience and communication skills.
